Q: How much does medical evacuation cost from Sri Lanka back to the United States? Our group is planning to do scuba diving for 2 weeks in Sri Lanka. All of us are inexperienced about scuba diving so we want to buy some type of coverage that will bring us back the U.S. in case one of us got injury. A: It's always strong recommended that travelers have international travel medical insurance while traveling abroad. Regarding the cost of emergency medical evacuation from a foreign location such as Ratnapura, Sri Lanka to the U.S. may cost approximately $60,000 USD if you travel without having an appropriate insurance plan. We offer two type of emergency medical evacuation plans. 1) Travel medical insurance with emergency medical evacuation benefits such as Atlas Travel Series, Liaison International, and Patriot Travel Medical Insurance. We recommend that you purchase Optional Hazardous Sport Rider. In the event of illness or injury, if recommended by your attending Physician, who certifies that Evacuation is necessary to safeguard your life and that Medically Necessary treatment is not available locally, and if approved in advance and coordinated by the Plan Administrator, with any of these plans - Atlas Travel Series, Liaison International, and Patriot Travel Medical Insurance - will provide the following benefits: Emergency air and/or ground transportation to the nearest Hospital that is qualified to provide the Medically Necessary treatment. So you may not be transferred directly back to the U.S. right away, but to one of the qualified hospitals. If the attending physician at the transferred hospital recommends that Evacuation to the United States is needed, the Plan Administrator will transfer you back to the U.S. safely. 2) If you prefer to have your own physician in your home state to care for you in the event that you become ill or get injury while traveling, we recommend that you purchase Prepaid Air Evacuation Services. As a MEDJET member, if your are hospitalized anywhere in the world, simply call ASSISTANCE CENTER and a specially equipped jet with a medical team can be dispatched to bring you to your home hospital or hospital of you choice so you can be treated by your personal physician and be close to your family.
