London Lloyds, the worlds leading specialist insurance market, today welcomed the decision by ratings agency A.M. Best to upgrade Lloyds financial strength rating to A from A-. The outlook for the rating is stable. The rating reflects Lloyds improving prospective capitalization, strong operating performance, its global reach and improvements in risk management. Welcoming the decision, Lloyds Chief Executive, Nick Prettejohn said: I am delighted that A.M. Best has recognized and rewarded Lloyds underlying financial strength and excellent prospects for the future. I am particularly pleased that A.M. Best has highlighted the significant progress we are making to ensure Lloyds is consistently high-performing and financially resilient. The agency has recognized the industry-leading results we delivered in 2003, and expects further strong underlying performance this year. Roger Sellek, Commercial Director, commented: This upgrade to A (Excellent) is particularly significant given the difficult rating environment. Todays announcement will be recognized as a hard-earned vote of confidence in Lloyds, enhancing the attractiveness of the Lloyds market to policyholders and capital providers.
